Today is the 74th World Food Day, and this year’s theme – “Our actions are our future: healthy diets for a #ZeroHunger world” – is shining a spotlight on food quality. Ultimately, everyone should have access to a healthy, sustainable diet.
And as we all know, healthy eating begins at breakfast. So how are we doing in Italy?
According to the Doxa/UnionFood observatory study “Io Comincio Bene” (I make a good start), breakfast is now a good habit for around 9 out of 10 Italians, with a full 85% of them electing to have it at home. Biscuits, toasts, cereals, coffee, juices, honey and jams are consumers’ favourites, with an increasing focus on natural products for greater wellbeing. Healthy-eating, vegetarian and vegan trends have now reached the breakfast table, too, boosting the uptake of products like jams, preserves and honey.
